2023 “Welcome Back to the Island” Webinar

Clinic Medical Director Raymond A. James, D.O, along with Boca Grande Fire Department Chief Blosser discussed how to recognize urgent and emergency health situations and addressed how to access care. Clinic CEO Mark Driscoll covered new clinic services and the care team who is here to keep you healthy. Cannon Jones, Executive Director of the Boca Grande Health Clinic Foundation, provided an update on Foundation activities.

In addition, the webinar featured a special presentation of plans to improve the Clinic’s services, facilities, infrastructure and technologies to better meet patient and Island needs for expanded primary and urgent care, while preparing the Clinic for a bright future of providing exceptional care, close to home.

Welcome Back to the Island” webinar is the first of The Grande Rounds health lecture series sponsored by the Boca Grande Health Clinic and the Boca Grande Health Clinic Foundation. The main theme of the first virtual event, featuring Clinic Medical Director Raymond A. James, D.O., and Clinic CEO Mark Driscoll, who cover what to expect as our seasonal residents consider their return to an Island that’s more than a bit different than past years. Joining the webinar will be Boca Beacon’s Cheryl Schum, who provided imagery and commentary on Hurricane Ian’s impact and recovery efforts.

How to Live to be 100 Lessons learned from India and Italy

Yale Medicine-affiliated Sandip Mukherjee, MD, FACC, will share new observations and treatment strategies for reducing heart disease, the most common cause of death in the U.S., and how lowering your cholesterol, controlling diabetes, and addressing obesity can contribute to a long, healthy life. Dr. Mukherjee will also review lessons learned from the world’s “Blue Zones” – places where people live the longest and are healthiest.

The series kicked off on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 where Boca Grande residents had an opportunity to join Healthnetwork Foundation and speaker Dr. Paul Auwaerter, MBA, MD, Clinical Director at the Division of Infectious Diseases at Johns Hopkins. Dr. Auwaerter provided the latest knowledge on the transmission of COVID-19, the course of the illness, and updates on testing, as well as addressed travel considerations.

On October 6, 2020 Boca Grande residents were able to join Laurie Jacobs, MD Chair, Department of Medicine Hackensack Meridian Health as she spoke on the lingering health effects of COVID-19. Through their experience in caring for these patients, Hackensack Meridian Health has developed NJ’s first and only COVID-19 Recovery Center to provide a comprehensive post-COVID evaluation, along with support and treatment.
