Let’s Get Together

We have a saying at the Foundation – Together, we make our Clinic work. If you’re interested in doing your part to support the Clinic, please contact us today. We look forward to helping you become part of an extraordinary support network, which is part of an important legacy on Boca Grande.

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

We hope this letter finds you and your loved ones safe and sound. Hurricane Ian has unfortunately changed us all and our cherished Boca Grande community. Everyone on our Island has been impacted, physically, emotionally, and/or financially. Now that the storm has passed and left behind catastrophic damage that will take years to rebuild, our focus is to ensure the Boca Grande Health Clinic can operate safely and serve our community.

We are saddened to share that several of the Clinic staff members, who care for us 24/7, have suffered significant losses. Our faithful doctors are sleeping on the floors of the Clinic’s exam rooms due to serious damage to their homes. We are deeply grateful that they remained on Island with no electricity, water, and internet to care for patients and serve our community. A couple of our nurses have lost their homes and are displaced, while other Clinic staffers suffered major damage to their homes.

Despite these harrowing experiences, within hours of Ian’s eye passing the West Coast of Florida, our Clinic and Foundation staff checked on everyone they knew who remained on Island. We could not possibly be prouder to share that the Clinic was open within 24 hours, ready to provide urgent care and refill prescriptions. We are very fortunate to add another caring soul to our extraordinary staff: our new physician, Emily Haly, M.D., who is scheduled to begin on November 1, opened her home in Tampa to staff who needed to evacuate to safety. There are many more examples of selfless acts of courage, care, concern, and leadership that embody our Clinic’s community-based values. It is hard to imagine that there is anywhere else in the world where you can receive this level of devoted medical care and treatment.

As the clean-up and recovery efforts continue, the Clinic’s mission to provide quality healthcare to Gasparilla Island residents and workers has never been more important. Now, more than ever, generous donations are needed and will be very much appreciated. We need to fund the Clinic’s nearly $3M annual operating deficit to assist in the recovery of our devoted medical staff as they continue to take care of us and our beloved community. We hope that every member of our Island community will make a stretch commitment to support our Clinic and staff during this unprecedented time, and we invite you to join our effort.

In the coming weeks and months, we will keep you apprised of developments and needs of the Clinic. We thank you for your steadfast commitment to and support of the Boca Grande Health Clinic Foundation during this most challenging time.

Most sincerely,
